It’s lights on for the new variable speed limit signs through the canyon.
The Utah Department of Transportation hopes the changing limits will improve safety by improving consistency of flow.
Basically during storms they want all drivers to be going the same speed, so they're changing the way they determine those limits.
“It takes a look at roadway conditions happening during that storm understand through our meteorologists how long storm will last what snowfall is, visibility is what temps are doing, what the road friction is. What travel speeds are. Take all that data, engineer will analyze that post new speed, “ said Robert Miles, Region 2 District Engineer with UDOT.
