WEST VALLEY CITY (ABC 4 Utah)- Along with the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, many Americans will have to decide on a new dilemma. Not pecan versus pumpkin pie, but going for seconds or going shopping. A handful of retailers will open their doors Thursday evening.
It's the rush to lockdown some mega deals, but this year, it'll come on the day mist Americans plan to sit down before a Thanksgiving Day feast.
"It's better than having to sit in the lines," said Shopper Brittney Potter.
But others have gone as far as calling it "UnAmerican."
"That should just be a holiday for everybody. I believe in not working holidays," said shopper Jonathan Gonzalez.
But these retailers don't agree. Kmart, Toys R Ud, Wal Mart, Macy's, Khol's, Sears, JC Penney, and Best Buy will all open on Turkey Day hoping to turn it into your holiday shopping day. But for Candace Gonzalez it just means work.
"I'm going to start cooking first thing in the morning so we can eat before I come to work because I have to be here at four," said worker Candace Gonzalez.
She has to be at work at four in the afternoon to be prepared for door buster savings at six at Toys R Us. It's not the idea, way her husband and four kids want to spend the holiday without Mom.
"It's family time, that's outrageous that stores are opening at 6pm. That's when we have dinner," said Jonathan Gonzalez.
A Facebook page urged you to "Pledge not to Shop on Thanksgiving" with 55,000 likes. A logo agreeing with the pledge has been shared nearly a million times. But for others, it's a jump start on Christmas shopping. Brittney Potter shopped last Thanksgiving.
"I also bought a telescope and it was really fun and I enjoy doing it," said Potter.
