SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - January marks the 50th anniversary of the first surgeon general's report on smoking and health.

The good news: we’ve made significant progress over the years when it comes to tobacco use. The bad news: tobacco use is still a big problem.

Thursday some Utah health groups talked about their concerns.

“Number 1, we have people with the habit of smoking. And it is an addiction, and we understand that, so we're trying to help people with that addiction….We know that most of them want to quit, so if we can just help them with that desire, then we can be successful in reducing more, “ said David Patton, Executive Director of Utah Department of Health.

The new report estimates 480,000 people will die in the United States this year because of tobacco.
