Winds reached speeds as high as 76 mph in Lost Creek, 72 mph in Empire Peak and 71 mph in Cedar City.
High winds caused multiple trees to blow over on the Southern Utah University campus. At least 10 trees around campus and Cedar City have been blown over by severe winds.
Strong winds also caused power outages in the area. Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Dave Eskelsen said two primary outages occurred in Cedar City around 9 a.m. About 120 customers were affected when service from the Lone Tree substation went down, but power was restored there by 10:15 a.m.
About half of the 200 customers left powerless when the Enoch substation failed remained without power as of noon. Full service for that part of the grid was not expected until mid- to late-afternoon.
