SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah)- We’re learning more about a fugitive who led police on a high speed chase Wednesday. Travis McDonald stole several cars, ran from police, hid in a Home Depot, and eventually got away. But those who know him say they’re not surprised he’s in the middle of this mess.

McDonald is a stranger to many, but Randy Mills sees his troubled grandson.

“It's not anything he {was} raised {to do}. I always tried to show him a good example,” said McDonald’s Grandfather Randy Mills.

Mills says his grandson started hanging out with the wrong crowd, got into drugs, stole cars and it landed him in prison.

“He said he won’t go back. He absolutely won’t go back,” said Mills.

So hearing McDonald fled police Wednesday, comes as no surprise. For Debbie, Travis McDonald is the man who stole her family’s car back in August.

“It's just the thought that somebody can take your property and have that sense of entitlement that they can do what they want with your stuff,” said victim Debbie.

His mugshot on the news brought her back to the moment she saw him in the back of a police car after being arrested for having her stolen car.

“He just starred us down, he wasn’t humbled, and he wasn't looking away. What I said that day was that he gave a look to us like he was trying to intimidate us,” said Debbie.

Mills and Debbie say for McDonald, this is all a cycle. And sadly, they don’t expect him to do anything, but what he’s been convicted and accused of doing.

“Look at his history, realize that he's just going to be out stealing cars, stealing property, perhaps scaring people and it's not going to change,” said Debbie.

“He didn't think they'd catch him. But they will. It'll take them a minute but they will,” said Mills.

Police say McDonald has a drug problem and can be very unpredictable. He’s also known to carry guns and other weapons.
