KEARNS, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - As a Kearns teenager recovers from injuries sustained by a gunshot wound Saturday night, police have now determined that the only suspect in the shooting was himself.

Hours after the teen reported that two unidentified suspects broke into his home at 5292 S. Leprechaun Lane and shot him, investigators from the Unified Police Department began finding inconsistencies with the evidence at the scene and the story the 17-year-old told to police.

In an interview with detectives, the teen allegedly admitted to staging the robbery and shooting himself. Police say there were no other people involved and no outstanding suspects.

The teen's false report sparked a short-lived search for two suspects that the 17-year-old described to police as two African American men. Police say the victim is in fair condition at the hospital and may face possible charges for filing a false police report.
