TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- A 45-year-old man is in police custody Sunday after a Saturday night crash that killed a 3-year-old boy from Murray.

According to the Unified Police Department, Manuel de Jesus Guinea of Kearns was responsible for the five-car crash that led to the death of Zane Thurber. Guinea was allegedly driving recklessly down the westbound lane of 5400 South in Taylorsville when he rear-ended a Subaru Legacy that was among a line of cars waiting at a stop light at Canal Street (1300 West).

The Subaru was driven by Thurber's father and was also carrying the child's 6-year-old brother. The boy's father and brother were both taken to the hospital after the crash but are expected to recover.

The crash caused a chain reaction that involved three other vehicles, but no one else was seriously injured.

Police say that Guinea left his pickup truck after the crash and attempted to blend in with a group of witnesses at the crash scene. One witness held on to Guinea until UPD officers arrived and took him in to custody. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Guinea was booked into jail early Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and automobile homicide.

Relatives of the Thurber family have set up a fund to help the family pay for funeral costs and other expenses.
