Utah Highway Patrol said a Le Bus passenger bus carrying around 50 people was traveling west on I-80, when it crashed into the back of a construction truck. The crashed happened about 30 miles east of Wendover just after 5:30p.m.
UHP said the bus was traveling directly behind the construction truck, when the truck began to slow down extensively. The truck has a large boom and drill equipment that went through the bus' windshield, killing the driver.
Five other people on the bus were injured, including two who were flown to Salt Lake City in critical condition. No one in the construction crew was hurt.
UHP said the area was not a construction zone where any lanes were closed. Crew members with Meadow Valley Contractors said the construction truck often parks in the median near the crash overnight. UHP is investigating the accident.
