Filled with natural light and the latest technology, Ogden Preparatory Academy Elementary and Jr. High School occupy new buildings on Lincoln Avenue in downtown Ogden. The new 38,685-square foot Jr. High is located at 1435 Lincoln Ave. The elementary school is located next door at 1415 Lincoln Ave. and is 53,751 square feet.
“We have constructed the new facilities to complement the demand for high-quality, public education in the Ogden area,” said Amie Campbell, Ogden Preparatory Academy Principal. “We envision the school as a community gathering place for learning.”
This fall, OPA administration welcomed 1,041 students. Enrollment in charter schools has increased 80 percent nationwide since 2009. Currently, 81 charter schools across the state serve approximately 50,000 students.
OPA excels academically, while maintaining a socio-economically diverse population. Utah’s School Grading System recently ranked OPA as the number one school in Ogden and in the top 20 percent in the state with a “B” grade. OPA has a 46 percent minority student population and 32 percent minority staff.
OPA selects its programs to meet the growing educational needs in the community and strives to encourage and inspire students. The school provides bilingual education, to expose students in K-9 grade to Spanish as a second language. They offer student leadership training programs, athletics, environmental field study curriculum and international learning opportunities through a study trip program.
As a charter school, Ogden Preparatory Academy is publicly funded, but independently operated. The school requires substantial parent involvement and strives for smaller class-sizes to personalize student learning.
