“The only thing we have to say is that it's finally time that Hser Ner Moo receive justice and she did today,” says Rob Parrish, deputy Salt Lake District Attorney.
It was a heartbreaking scene as the parents of a murdered child left the courtroom.
Their daughter, 7 year old Hser Ner Moo was raped, tortured and murdered nearly six years ago.
Friday night, the man accused of the crime was found guilty.
But it doesn't ease the family's pain.
“No more daughter, no more,” Cartoon Wah spoke to reporters after the verdict was read. He sobbed and hid his tears with a handkerchief.
“They do believe justice has been served with the last couple of weeks and ... the verdict, they're pleased with that," says family friend Ben Pender.
The jury was convinced Esar Met was with Hser Ner Moo inside his apartment. Witnesses testified they were friends who often played together.
But prosecutors say Met raped her and destroyed the evidence by beating the little girl to death.
They family will return home without their daughter. But they do feel some comfort in knowing after six years, the judicial system finally brought them the justice
“I want to say God bless America," says Pearly Ma.
Esar Met returns back to court May 7 when he’ll be sentenced.
The judge has two options: 20 years to life or life in prison with no chance of parole.
