Salt Lake City Attorney and sons arrested for felony drug charges

New details on the arrest of a lawyer with the Salt Lake City Police Department.
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (ABC 4 Utah) – New details on the arrest of a lawyer with the Salt Lake City Police Department.

James Wesley Robinson and his two sons were arrested Wednesday after police found drugs and guns inside his home located just a thousand feed from a school. We now know a burglary investigation is what led to the search of Robinsons home.

“I don't really know a whole lot of what goes on over there but there has been a lot of cars coming and going,” said Catherine Wilson, a close neighbor. Shocked is the word Wilson used to describe the arrest of her neighbor James Robinson, a man of the law, and his two sons Alexander and Zachary Robinson for felony drug charges with the intent to distribute."That was pretty crazy that night there were a lot of police cars here a lot of DEA officers that was pretty shocking for the children and myself,” said Wilson.

Wednesday Robinson and his sons were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after police found cocaine, marijuana, a large amount of cash and four guns inside their home during a search on Tuesday. Robinson is a litigator with the City Attorneys Office since 2000 and has been assigned to the Salt Lake Police Department since last summer.

“He works entirely on the civil side mostly he reviews transactional cases so he’s not directly or indirectly involved with criminal investigations or the criminal side of the work the police department does,” said Art Raymond, Salt Lake County Spokesperson.

The Salt Lake City attorney is now on paid administrative leave. but booked as a restricted person. Salt Lake City Police say several factors in his alleged crime make the case more serious. "If you have drugs a certain amount of drugs within the proximity of firearms then you are enhanced to a restricted person that's why he was booked as a restricted person. There was another enhancement because on this case its within a 1,000 feet of a school,” said Sgt. Robin Heiden with the Salt Lake Police Department.

As for Wilson, she's just glad to know the crime the Robinsons have been arrested for is no longer taking place across the street from her home. “It makes me not happy because I have children so that influence is not good,” said Wilson.

The Salt Lake District Attorney’s office is aware of the investigation and are assisting the police department but are waiting on the police to finish their investigation process before they screen for charges.
