WOODS CROSS, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- A pilot from Park City escaped serious injury after his plane crashed in a Woods Cross field Sunday afternoon.

Woods Cross Police Officer Chris Hoffman said the pilot took off from the Bountiful Skypark Airport. Shortly after getting in the air, the single-engine plane started losing power, so the pilot decided to make an emergency landing in a field near 500 S. Redwood Road. The plane flipped over its front and landed on its top, but the pilot was not seriously injured.

A Woods Cross police officer was nearby and witnessed the crash, so he called it in to alert authorities. The 42-year-old pilot, who was the only one on the plane, was looked at by medical responders at the scene and released.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash, Hoffman said.
