This time a 15-year-old girl was attacked while walking to school.
The sun was just coming up when the girl was walking down 600 North on her way to the Salt Lake Center for Science Education.
She only had a little bit over a mile to go. While she was walking she could feel someone behind her. She turned and saw a man.
She decided to cut through the Smith’s parking lot at 1114 W. 600 N.
That is when the man grabbed her, threw her to the ground and covered her mouth.
“She immediately reacted. She fought hard and she was able to fight this person off. And we encourage people to do that. To make a big fuss. Fight hard and don't ever, ever give up,” said Det. Dennis McGowan with the Salt Lake City Police Department.
The man tried to rape the 15-year-old but she wouldn’t give him the chance.
“She is ok. she was slightly injured as a result of the assault but once again she did the right thing and fought this person off,” said Det. McGowan.
Police managed to get surveillance video of the student walking by but when looking for the suspect they couldn’t spot him.
Parents are shocked at what happened.
“I would be absolutely horrified,” said Kevin Lee.
“That is very scary that it happened in this area. Especially with this school because it’s a great school and they are very security wise,” says Bob Heln.
Police taking this seriously. They say it’s time to put a stop to this.
“Our detectives are in a collaborative effort with other detectives in other agencies through out the valley. We are trying to match up these suspect descriptions,” says Det. McGowan.
Here is a description of the suspect.
He is a Hispanic male in or around his 30s. He is about 6'2” and has a thin build but police say he has a wide face. He has a mustache and he may be growing a beard. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a red beenie and he has black gloves.
