2 Mormon missionaries killed in Texas

DONNA, Texas, (ABC 4 News) - Two missionaries were killed, and a third critically injured when they were hit by a car while riding their bicycles in Donna, Texas Tuesday night.

DONNA, Texas, (ABC 4 News) - Two missionaries were killed, and a third critically injured, when they were hit by a car while riding their bicycles in Donna, Texas. Investigators say the driver and passengers of the vehicle involved in the crash ran from the accident.

One person has turned themselves in at an international bridge on the US-Mexican Border in relation to the accident. That person's role in the crash was not immediately known.

Scott Trotter, Spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, released the following statement:

"Two LDS missionaries were killed and another was injured when a vehicle struck all three while they were riding their bikes in Donna, Texas [Tuesday] evening.

"Elder Trevor Reinhold Strong, 21, of Taylorsville, Utah and Elder Derek Jason Walker, 20, of Fairfield, Idaho were killed. Elder Zachary Todd Harris, 19, of Huntsville, Alabama was rushed to a nearby medical center, where he is expected to recover.

"Authorities are searching for the driver who left the scene of the accident on foot.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Elder Harris and the family, friends and loved ones of Elder Strong and Elder Walker. We pray that the Lord will comfort and watch over them during this difficult time."
