There are 3 big events next month-the Utah State Amateur, the U.S. Amateur Public Links, and the Utah Championship, a Nationwide Tour event.
The U.S. Publinks is scheduled for July 9-14 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course. This is the first USGA national event ever held in Utah. Soldier Hollow head pro Chris Newson and his staff have done a great job getting the course ready. An army of voluteers is ready to make this a great experience for all the golfers. Utahn Clay Ogden won this event back in 2005 and that win qualified him for the Masters the next year.
That same week, July 12-15, the pros invade the state for the annual Utah Championship at Willow Creek Country Club. Its fun to see the stars of tomorrow tee it up out there. I played with Bubba Watson in a pro-am a few years back there, and he went on to win the Masters this year, so you never know which future star will be there. And its fun to watch those big hitters just destroy the par 5's out there and shoot some seriously low numbers.
The State Am will take place at the Salt Lake Country Club July 18-22. I've played the Country Clube twice so far this year, and it is in magnificent shape. It will be interesting to see how they set it up for the state's best amateur golfers, and if it will be a good test for them. I think it will be.
Enjoy watching any or all of these great events. I know I will!
