"It seems a little bit unlucky to be a center back on our team this year", said RSL coach Jason Kreis.
It started with Nat Borchers, who had quad surgery in the off season and missed a couple of games at the beginning of the year. Next, Chris Schuler went down with a bone stress response-the beginnings of what could turn into a stress fracture. Kwame Watson-Siriboe was next. He tore an ACL and is out for the year. And then, over the weekend, Carlos Salcedo had his gall bladder removed after complaining of severe pain during the match at Dallas.
" I can't believe it", said Borchers. "I feel really bad for Carlos".
"It speaks a little to Carlos because he told me the nest morning that he had actually had a lot of pain during the game in his abdomen," Kreis said.
The 19 year old Salcedo will be out about a week while he recovers. It't not known what caused it, but Borchers has a theory.
"When he thinks back on Cinco de Mayo and all the tacos he ate with all that grease, he'll kick himself! But in all seriousness, we're all pulling for him and it's a terrible thing to happen."
RSL traded to pick up Brandon McDonald from DC United to help add depth to the back line.
