Jazz sign Trey Burke and Rudy Gobert

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The Jazz announced the signings of first round draft picks Trey Burke and Rudy Gobert.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The day before they take the court in a Jazz uniform for the first time, first round draft picks Trey Burke and Rudy Gobert sign their first NBA contracts.

Per team policy, terms of the deals were not released. Both players will play for the Jazz summer league team in Orlando beginning Sunday.

Burke, the 9th overall selection in the NBA draft, was acquired in a draft-night trade with Minnesota that sent the Timberwolves the rights to the Jazz’s 14th and 21st overall picks.

Burke (6-1, 190, Michigan) spent two seasons at the University of Michigan, where as a sophomore, the point guard was named 2013 Naismith Player of the Year (the first Wolverine to receive the award), John R. Wooden National Player of the Year, Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year, Associated Press National Player of the Year, Sports Illustrated National Player of the Year and Big Ten Player of the Year. He also earned the Bob Cousy Award for the nation’s top point guard. Burke led Michigan to the 2013 NCAA Championship Game and hit the game-tying three pointer to force overtime in a win over Kansas to advance to the Elite Eight.

Burke averaged 18.6 points, 6.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from three-point range in 38 games his sophomore season. His 255 assists set a new Michigan single-season assist record while his 3.02 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked fifth-best in the nation.

Gobert, the 27th overall selection was acquired in a trade with Denver that sent the Nuggets the rights to the 46th overall pick and cash considerations.

A native of Saint Quentin, France, Gobert (7-1, 235) averaged 8.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 22.2 minutes per game for Cholet Basket of the French League in 2012-13 and was named a 2013 French Pro A All-Star. Gobert was also named to the U-20 European Championship Division A All-Tournament Team and selected as Eurobasket.com All-European Championships U-20 Best Center in 2012.

The French big man owns a 7-9 wingspan and 9-7 standing reach.
