“I am very disappointed to have to sit out another year at Utah," Foster said in a statement released Monday. "I will have surgery on my foot and I plan to continue my basketball career at the professional level after this year.”
The 7-foot-3 senior, who missed all of last season with a broken right foot, is Utah's career blocked shots leader with 219. Foster was the 2009-2010 Mountain West Conference defensive player of the year. In three seasons with the Runnin' Utes, he appeared in 80 games, making 47 starts. Foster averaged three points and 3.9 rebounds per game during his career.
“We are very disappointed for Dave, especially with all of the hard work he put in and the commitment he made to our program over the last couple of years," said head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "It’s really a shame that he won’t get a chance to play his senior year at Utah. Dave is a great leader for our young team and will continue to be involved with our program. We will see how he responds to the surgery and hopefully he can continue his basketball career in the future.”
Utah opens up the regular season on November 9 when the team plays host to Williamette.
