Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox placed pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fracture of the left fourth anterior rib.

The move, which is retroactive to June 5, comes one day after Peavy underwent an MRI that revealed the fracture, leaving the veteran right-hander sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks.

Peavy exited Tuesday's game early against Seattle after allowing a two-run double to Raul Ibanez with one out in the third inning. Following a brief conference with manager Robin Ventura and the team trainer, the former Cy Young Award winner exited the game having thrown just 42 pitches.

Prior to exiting, Peavy surrendered six runs for the second straight outing, during which his ERA rose from 2.97 to 4.30. He threw a complete game against the Marlins prior to the two poor starts.

Also on Thursday, the White Sox optioned pitcher Brian Omogrosso to Triple-A Charlotte, recalled pitcher Deunte Heath from the Knights, and purchased the contract of right-hander Ramon Troncoso.

Omogrosso went 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in 11 games out of the bullpen for Chicago.

Heath appeared in four games with the White Sox earlier this season, while Troncoso hasn't pitched in the majors since 2011 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
