On Saturday, they buried their six-year old daughter.
She was found sexually assaulted and murdered Tuesday morning in West Jordan.
In a prepared statement, the family offered a glimpse of their life with sierra saying “Sierra was a bright star in our family and she is deeply missed. The hole left in our lives by her absence can never be repaired,” wrote her father Brad Newbold.
Police won’t say how the six-year-old was taken from her home, but an autopsy showed she was sexually assaulted, murdered and dumped in a canal.
Police have no suspects.
To that, her father wrote “Our family is devastated and we are grieving heavily about the loss of sierra and the circumstances surrounding her death. We are cooperating fully with the police in the hope that the responsible person is ultimately arrested and prosecuted."
A Salt Lake City mother understands what the Newbolds are going through.
“When I heard that it was a six year old girl, the first thing that popped into my mind was my Rosie," Lewine Tapia told ABC 4 News.
Her six year old daughter Rosie was killed in 1994. Rosie was murdered in eerily the same manner as Sierra.
"I know I've been waiting 17 years and I still don't know who took my Rosie."
Lewine Tapia only hopes the Newbold won't have to wait years to find justice.
"It's hard to lose your child. but you have to be strong for your family and never give up because I don't give up," said Tapia.
