SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Utah Businessman mark Crockett was declared the winner of the June 26 primary race for Salt Lake County mayor over Mike Winder.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Utah Businessman mark Crockett was declared the winner of the June 26 primary race for Salt Lake County mayor over Mike Winder.

After a recount and tallying absentee and provisional ballots, Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swenson announced that Crockett had won by a 1,019 vote margin. The final tally was Crockett, 38,387; Winder, 37,368.

On Primary Night, Crockett ended up with a narrow 239-vote lead over Winder. Although it appeared Crockett may have won, his margin of victory was not large enough to avoid an automatic recount.

As early returns came in on June 26, Crockett never trailed, but never led by more than 400 votes throughout the night.

Crockett is a former member of the county council, and currently works as a management consultant.

Winder experienced criticism after writing positive articles about West Valley City last year under a false name on a Utah news web site. He was reprimanded by the WVC Council, and apologized. He hoped the voting public would forgive him.

Crockett will face Democrat Ben McAdams in the November 7 election.
