PROVO- A Provo woman is dead after fire investigators say her home went up in flames. It happened at about 6:15p Wednesday at 1362 South 1100 West in Provo. Provo Fire Captain Dean York says the victim is 70 year old Louise Dennis Massey. They say she was in thee living room. It's the room with the most damage on the second floor. And her medical condition means she wasnt able to run from the flames.
It was a scene no one wanted to witness in their neighborhood on a quiet Wednesday evening.
"I came out here and thats when i saw the fire trucks and the police cars," said neighbor Barbara.
Barbara lives just across the street from the victim, Louise Dennis Massey.
"I just knew them briefly, she didn't get out too much but Sister Massey was a sweetheart," said Barbara.
Fire fighters say she had a stroke and that left her immobile on hospice which may have contributed to her death.
"I'm not sure whether she was in a wheelchair or walker but thats why she was on hospice bc of mobility issues," said Provo Fire Captain York.
The basement of the house is usually rented out to family members. But no one else was home at the time of the fire. Investigators still don't know what to call this fire.
"I don't know right now whether accident, crime scene, they wont know until the investigation continues and concludes," said York.
But for those who knew the 70-year-old victim, an investigation wont be enough.
"Just a nice lady to know," said Barbara.
