Swift winds created two to three foot waves.
They knocked water into the men's 14 foot flat bottom boat about a mile from the coast of Saltair.
"I jumped out of the boat. I'll let the boat sink, but I'm not going down with it," said Duwayne Atwood from West Valley.
The men were duck hunting and had at least 22 ducks in the boat.
They were all lost, but the men were able to save their guns because the water was only waist deep.
The men trudged through the shallow water in the water proof clothing for about 20 minutes to Rock Island where they were able to beach their boat.
"It just got swamped. We just dragged it in with all the water in it. We just had the front of the boat out hat was it," said Atwood.
Search and rescue crews found the men on the island, but allowed them to walk to shore because the water was shallow and offered no real danger for the men.
Emergency crews checked the men over and released them at the scene a little over an hour after water swamped their boat.
The names of the men on the boat are Duwayne Atwood from West Valley, Jeff Christensen from West Valley, Clark Allen from Kearns and Dave Christensen from West Valley.
They say this will likely be a story they'll talk about for a long time to come.
