The numbers are alarming. Every 33 seconds another person loses their life to cardiovascular disease. The participants in the Heart Challenge hope not to become a statistic. They were selected based on their desire to change.
Christi Winters and her Husband Jeff say they need some guidance. Christi says they have tried every diet out there, and following all of their recommendations left her confused. Christi says “it’s just better to know what’s good for you and what’s not. I could tell you about any fad diet, but to know what’s really healthy and good for you; I don’t know.” She and her husband are also looking for advice on how to exercise effectively.
The competition began with testing. The couples blood pressure and cholesterol were monitored, blood glucose and triglycerides tested, weight and waist circumference measured. For the next 100 days the couples will receive nutrition and exercise counseling, a gym membership, and weekly progress checks. 100 days from now the couples will return for their final screening. The couple that has made the most progress toward eliminating the factors that lead to heart disease will win.
