Destiny McCubbin says she invited some friends to a party on Friday the 16th, but she says “she invited some friends and then they called a few friends and soon everybody knew about it.” Her plan was to have about 50 people at the party, but soon that tripled. She estimates more than 150 people came to her house near 150 North and 1200 West.
Crowd control became a big problem when a few partygoers began fighting. Destiny says she went to the front door to confront some of the troublemakers. That would turn out to be a big mistake. Destiny says, “As soon as I opened the door someone fired a shot.” Destiny felt something hit her foot, but says at first she didn’t realize she was shot. But everyone else knew what had happened and Destiny wasn’t the only victim. Three other people were hit – one apparently in the neck. “Everybody was running and crying and ducking.” Destiny says she feels terrible about what happened and says those who were shot - two her friends and a boy she had met that night at the party “could have died.”
Monday night Destiny’s father told ABC 4 News that the shooting victims were all recovering. Police say no one has been arrested and so far the description of the shooter is pretty vague. Destiny believes “someone at the party knows” the man who fired the shots and she hopes they will “tell police what they know so he can be arrested.”
As for her part, Destiny says she feels awful about what happened. “I feel so bad. I wanted a fun party. Instead now people are saying she had the party that everyone got shot at. It’s not what I wanted.”
