The assault happened Sunday night at 9:15. Police say the suspect was in a parking lot with the hood up on his truck and using a flashlight to look around the engine. The victim asked him if he needed help. Police say he handed her the flashlight then attacked and raped her.
Women who spoke to ABC 4 News about the assault are very concerned. Dani Lecompte says she “Feel horrible for the woman who was attacked.” And goes on to say she never thought something like that could happen just outside the theater. Jaclyn Finlinson, who has gone to the theater several times, says “It’s very scary.”
Karen Roper says she used to think of the area as “very safe.” Now she isn’t so sure. Her younger sister Kadie Roper echoed that comment saying she “never thought of the area as a place to worry about.” Now she says “I’m kind of scared.”
Finlinson says she is also surprised this could happen with all the police that she sees in the area. In fact, when we spoke to her she had just seen an officer “in the parking lot.” Nate Crawford runs a business across from the theater. He also says he sees “officers patrolling throughout the weekend.” He says he sees cop cars “every half hour or so.”
As women express their safety concerns police are searching for the suspect. They describe him as a white male, about 30 years of age, about six feet tall, medium build, blonde hair and a mustache. At the time he was wearing tight wrangler jeans and black cowboy boots. And the victim told police his truck was a Ford or Dodge full size model that was dark blue or dark green. She also told police the interior had a musty smell to it.
