The Utah Wildlife Board will take up the matter June 5.
Biologists at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources say elk numbers are running a little thin from the Wyoming border to Utah's west desert.
The game managers want to increase herds to 71,000, up by more than 2,000 across those regions.
Biologists say 35 elk can be taken out of southern Utah's Paunsaugunt unit. They say it's the only area where elk are on the upswing.
Also in June, the Wildlife Board will take up a proposal by biologists to set more frequent population targets for deer and elk in Utah's five hunting regions.
