Troopers with the Utah Highway Patrol were on the scene for six hours Wednesday evening as they removed 25 dead cattle from a trailer. Nine more cattle were gathered up by volunteers and transported to a rancher's property to be held. About five cattle scattered into the canyon and were unaccounted for after the crash.
Trooper Phil Rawlinson told The Herald Journal newspaper that the many volunteers made gathering the cattle easier.
The driver of the truck, Robert Keaster of Lingle, Wyo., was uninjured. Troopers say he was traveling too fast through a curve and lost control. He was issued a citation for failure to operate the vehicle in one lane.
