Utah artist’s mission is to beautify South Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) A Utah artist has made it her mission combat unsightly graffiti.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) A Utah artist has made it her mission combat unsightly graffiti. Kelie Babcock has donated her artwork to South Salt Lake’s Utility Box Art Program to combat graffiti on utility boxes.

The South Salt Lake Utility Box Art Program was started in November of 2011. The program’s artwork adorns a total of 12 utility boxes as they approach the 2nd anniversary of the South Salt Lake Utility Box Art Program.

Babcock has also been overcoming challenges since being diagnosed with Escobar syndrome, a rare birth defect that causes short stature and deformities, often with the head and spine.

Despite her life challenges Ms. Babcock graduated from Weber State University with a bachelor's degree in social work, a minor in art, working as the Assistive Technology Coordinator for Roads to Independence in Ogden, UT, She teaches classes and workshops on "Living Well with a Disability" and serving on Senator Orrin Hatch's Committee for Disability Related Issues.

Babcock was named Ms. Utah Wheelchair in 2010.
