Two dead in Salt Lake City shooting

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – Police have confirmed that two people are dead after a shooting in Salt Lake City Monday afternoon.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Police have confirmed that two people are dead after a shooting in Salt Lake City Monday afternoon.

Police say around 12:30 pm they were called to 1658 West Eisenhower Way after reports of gunshots. They found a man dead lying in the street. Not far away they discovered a woman also dead slumped in the driver seat of a car half on the driveway and half on the grass.

“I heard like 4-5 shots,” said Abraham Gaucin, 12, who lives nearby. “Kind of sounded like fire crackers.”

Investigators spent the day taking pictures trying to piece together a motive behind the deaths. Police won't call it a murder-suicide, but they say they are not looking for a gunman.

"The detectives believe they're close to figuring our exactly what happened but at this point no danger to community or to the neighborhood and there are no outstanding suspects,” said Detective Rick Wall, Salt Lake City PD.

ABC 4 Utah’s Kim Johnson asked the people who live in the house where the car was found if they knew the people involved. They said they did not. They residents didn't want to appear on camera, but said they were shocked to find the disturbing scene that took place practically on their front lawn.

Police have not released the identities of the man or woman, but believe one of them lived in the neighborhood.
