Stewart, who said he had seen the play, told Parker and Stone that the production was excellent saying, "I can't tell you how impressed I was."
Parker and Stone spoke of their fascination with the Mormon Church and its culture during the interview, and told Stewart that they have a lot of respect for the religion and its members, even though they find some of the doctrines and teachings odd.
Parker and Stone said it was not their aim to ridicule or bash the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or its membership, but to celebrate it, while recognizing the more unusual aspects of the religion.
Stewart said he thought the play was "sweet" and a celebration of the faith, rather than a negative portrayal of Mormonism.
Both Parker and Stone agreed.
"We love Mormons," said Stone. "We love that whole mythology."
'The Book of Mormon' began previews last month and officially opens at the Eugene O'Neill Theater on Broadway later in March.
