Taylorsville to join Unified Police Dept.

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Taylorsville City Council voted 4-1 Wednesday evening to contract with the Unified Police Department.
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Taylorsville City Council voted 4-1 Wednesday evening to contract with the Unified Police Department.

The 60 police personnel of Taylorsville will be transferred to UPD which will go into effect July 1, 2012.

The estimated savings is over $500,000 for this year, according to city officials.

The council also approved a 15 percent tax increase which will be used in funding capital projects and maintenance of streets throughout the city.

Another part of the budget approval was a proposal to join the Salt Lake Valley Fire District. This is expected to add 9 fire and EMS personnel, a new fire station and re-building station 117. This will take effect on January 1, 2013.
