A Cache County Sheriff's officer said around 12:45 p.m. a 23 year old Providence man called his mother telling her he had suicidal issues. She called police. Before officers arrived they said shots were fired from inside the home, but that negotiators made contact with the man afterward.
Neighbors told ABC 4 the man had briefly served in the military. Sheriff's officials said the man had access to weapons inside the home at 100 East Center Street. Deputies closed down the block and evacuated eight nearby homes during the standoff.
Negotiators said at first the suspect was talking with police and had agreed to come out on his own. But close to 4:00 p.m. they lost contact with the man, they tried to use a robot to reestablish communication, but eventually they used what sounded like percussion grenades and gas on the home. A half hour later, around 7:30 p.m. the suspect came out a back door.
The 23-year old man was treated on scene by paramedics for unspecified injuries and take to a Cache Valley hospital.
