SUV smashes into Provo home

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Provo family is grateful to be alive after an SUV smashed through one third of their home Friday.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Provo family is grateful to be alive after an SUV smashed through one third of their home Friday.

"I don't know what to think right now," said David Lee, Provo resident.

Take one look at David Lee's house and you know why. Friday morning an SUV drove through his Provo home.

"It's almost like a bomb went off inside the house, there's brick, there's wood laying around... it's just a big mess," said Lee.

Police said a 17-year-old driver coming off of 450 E. and University Pkwy, for whatever reason, didn't stop. His SUV went airborne smashing into the home.

"He was going fast enough that when he hit the berm, landed himself in the boys bedroom and the master bedroom of the house, completely through the home," said Lt. Matt Siufanua, Provo Police Dept.

Neighbors said renters were in the basement at the time, but the family living upstairs was not. The mother just had a baby, was recovering from a c-section, so the whole family, including their 5 children, was staying at their in-laws in Lehi. Lee said he's grateful they were there.

"You can't even see pieces of the beds. It's decimated really... if we would've been there, it would've been bad news," said Lee.

Police tell ABC 4 the driver may have had a medical condition, which caused him to lose control. He suffered only minor injures.
