The Spectrum reports St. George defense attorney John Hummel was bound over for trial Wednesday following an evidence hearing.
He'd been charged earlier this year with multiple counts of theft by extortion or deception and attempted theft by extortion or deception. Hummel hasn't entered a plea, but previously said he will dispute the charges.
As a Garfield County public defender in 2008 and 2009, Hummel was paid by the state to represent clients who couldn't afford an attorney. But some clients say he told them he'd do a better job and get them out of jail faster if they paid him separately.
