Unified Police said Tuesday the remains belong to 20-year-old Nicole Bakoles. Duck hunters found her bones near a road on October 2000. Over time, the unidentified remains became known as "Saltair Sally" because the bones were found near Saltair.
Investigators took DNA samples from Bakoles' mother in 2011 and the results they received recently were matched to the missing woman. Investigators say Bakoles lived in the Salt Lake City area on and off for about three years.
Police are looking for anyone who knew Bakoles or who has information about her.
