Text messaging while driving is illegal in Utah. If caught, a driver can be fined up to $750. Should you cause an accident while texting, you can be fined up to $1,000 and spend six months in jail. And if you cause a death while texting, you can be fined $10,000 and spend up to 15 years in jail.
Earlier this year, a law was passed that prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a cell phone while driving.
