The plane took off from Spanish Fork airport and around 10:30 a.m. the pilot made a distress call saying that the plane was filling up with smoke.
Investigators believe a small plane clipped a power line as it made attempted to make an emergency landing.

The crash killed the passenger and the pilot was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.
The crash closed SR-89 for several hours.
