It happened at an apartment complex near the 600 block of South Redwood Road. Screams from the balcony caught the attention of the men who wish to remain anonymous.
“We saw a guy and a girl pulling back on a car seat, back and forth,” said the neighbor.
But inside the car seat was a baby passed around like a toy.
“The concern is with the baby really I didn't care if they were fighting or not,” says the neighbor’s cousin.
Then the infant appeared to be in danger.
“I approach the guy and he had the baby in a choke hold,” says the neighbor.
Both men confronted the man later identified as Sam Suarez. They also called police.
“I didn't care if they were fighting or not and they just needed to let go of the baby and fight,” says the neighbor’s cousin. “They could argue.”
But the man didn’t let go of the baby. The two continued talking with him until police arrived. They took custody of the baby but Suarez allegedly jumped the officer throwing him to the ground.
“Me and my friend jumped in to take the hand off the police officer's neck and I jumped in and grabbed his feet,” says the neighbor.
Another officer arrived and tasered Suarez who is then taken to jail.
Baby and the officer are okay all because of two brave neighbors.
“When they were shaking the car seat back and forth that's when I was concerned,” says the neighbor’s cousin. “The baby was at risk. That's why I got involved.”
Suarez was charged Tuesday with multiple felony counts including child abuse and assault on an officer. Police claim Suarez made verbal threats against the two men as he was being lead to jail.
