A Salt Lake City District judge called 43-year-old Todd Eugene Anderson callous and indifferent before sentencing him Friday. Prosecutors say Anderson left Jennifer Schubach at her apartment without calling 911 or trying to help on April 27, 2011.
Anderson initially faced the harsher charge of first-degree felony murder, but jurors convicted him of second-degree felony manslaughter. The Deseret News reports that the jurors determined that Anderson did not intend to kill Schubach when he put her in a choke hold during an argument.
Anderson said before sentencing that he was ashamed about what happened and that he'll always regret it.
