A black Nissan Altima began following him in the area of 1900 East and 4500 South in Holladay.
Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department says the Nissan followed the driver for a few miles before the single shot was fired.
The innocent driver called 911 and began following the alleged shooter and his two passengers.
“It’s kind of cool that he tracked the guy down and went after him,” said Steffon Olsen from Draper.
“Kind of a surprising, probably not a real common thing for Holladay,” said Scott Black from Holladay.
Police followed the Nissan Altima to 300 South and Redwood Road where they forced it to stop.
They arrested Judd Williams, Tinote Fangpu and Tuanaga Taigane. Williams is charged with discharge of a firearm and fleeing from police. The other two are charged with discharge of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance.
Hoyal says the men through they were following a rival who wanted their money, but they were wrong.
“Just shows when you do the wrong thing you get paranoid and do the wrong thing. Do even further damage to yourself,” said Olsen.
The innocent victim was unharmed.
The three suspects are in jail facing felony charges.
