This story if focusing on the divider in police cars used to keep cuffed suspects contained in the back seat.
One of those dividers had an opening large enough for a suspect to crawl through and eventually steal a the police car.
Police were called to JoAnn Crafts June 15 in Riverdale where they allegedly found Gordon Graham with a stolen car.
They cuff his hands and place him in the back of a police car where he complained about heat.
"The officer cracked the back window and opened the partitions so that the air conditioning could circle through the back of the vehicle," said Riverdale Police Spokesman, James Ebert.
Police say they turned their attention to Graham's fiance Celeste Hart and that's when Graham allegedly sprung into action.
Police say he slipped his cuffed hands from behind his back, under his feat to the front of his body.
He then climbed through the open partition, which is about 12 inches by 14 inches.
After flopping down in the front seat, Graham found hand cuff keys hanging from the cars ignition. He freed his hands and drove away.
He ditched the car in Roy at 2550 West 6075 South and hitch hiked a mile and a half southeast to Clinton where he was eventually arrested.
Riverdale Police say their take away from this mishap is to more closely monitor criminals who are in the back seat.
