Police say the crash happened on Tuesday at 300 S. State Street in Provo.
According to police, a silver Dodge PT Cruiser rear-ended a brown Honda Civic stopped at the traffic light.
Before the collision, another driver, was approaching the light at 300 S. in her own car when she was cut off by the PT Cruiser.
Police say the car veered into Kendra’s lane and immediately struck the Honda Civic stopped at the light.
The witness told police that the driver of the PT Cruiser immediately drove away but not before she used her phone to photograph the car.
When officers arrived, police say they attended to the victim’s medical needs, cleared the intersection, and then began investigating.
Police say Kendra's photograph showed only the make and model of the car, not the vehicle’s license plate.
When they examined the damage to the Honda, police say they realized the bumper captured a faint impression of part of the suspect’s license plate number.
Police say investigators used the partial plate number to locate a Silver PT Cruiser at a nearby address, where officers found the PT Cruiser with parts of the Honda’s taillight lodged in the grill and a matching license plate.
After additional investigation, police say the alleged driver of the PT Cruiser, 35-year-old Stefanie Jo Wilhite was booked at Utah County Jail, where she faces leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, driving without proof of insurance, and making an unsafe lane change charges.
The driver of the Honda went to the hospital with head, neck, and ankle pains.
