Three UHP troopers were involved in crashes of their own before noon Thursday, including one who was taken to the hospital after being knocked to the ground by a sliding, out-of-control vehicle.
Authorities said the trooper was investigating a crash near 1000 South and I-15 before dawn, when his cruiser was struck by an oncoming vehicle that was sliding on the ice. The trooper was standing beside his vehicle during the collision and was thrown 10 feet. He was taken to Intermountain Medical Center as a precaution, but was not seriously hurt.
Then at 9 a.m., a UHP trooper in Utah County was struck while assisting a motorist who had slid off I-15 near Springville. He sustained minor back and neck injuries, but was not hospitalized.
Nearly 250 accidents or slide-offs were reported in Salt Lake and Utah counties during the course of Thursday morning's commute.
