SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - Some people who are against the controversial education standards "Common Core" are now turning to God. Right now Common Core is being implemented in Utah schools, and opponents who want to stop it are now asking others to pray for help.
Opponents of the upcoming education mandate Common Core are now petitioning for divine intervention.
"We're asking people to pray," said Christel Swasey, parent against Common Core.
Christel Swasey is one of them. She's behind this recent blog post titled "Please Pray for the Defeat of Common Core." The Utah State Office of Education tells Reporter Brian Carlson it's a higher set of standards for Math and English, that Utah, among other states, is implementing this fall. But Swasey said if you take a closer look at Common Core is rotten program with a lot to hide.
"Parents don't realize their options are going away from them. Also a lot of parents don't realize that there's a state longitudinal data base system that tracks their child without their consent without their permission from the time their little until they're in the workforce," said Swasey.
Right now Common Core has got some big backers including the U.S. Secretary of Education. Carlson spoke with him about it earlier this month.
"In this important conversation I would urge your viewers to think about - Do you want more for your children or do you want less?" said Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education.
Because of such powerful proponents Swasey doesn't know where else to turn to stop Common Core.
"We need people to pray because it's almost the only thing we can do at this point," said Swasey.
She has faith God will intercede.
"Do you think praying is going to work?" Carlson asked.
"I hope so," said Swasey.
It may sound odd to some, but Swasey said when people of faith are outnumbered, that's what they do is pray. She's hoping others out there join her.
