Blind man learning to ski

ALTA, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Want to pick up a new sport? How about tackling it blind?
"It's not really hard. It just takes some getting used to like anything else," -Mike Harvey
ALTA, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Want to pick up a skiing? How about tackling it blind?  Mike Harvey took on the challenge in the Alta Ski Area.

"It's brand new getting used to the way it feels... the technique," said Mike Harvey. "You still feel the slope or the forward motion of the speed," he continued.

Many first time skiers stumble and fall.  Mike is no exception.  He fell many times, but Mike says this is the point.  Every time he fell he simple got up and kept moving.  "It's not really hard.  It just takes some getting used to like anything else," Harvey said.

Mike's ski instructor says he's a good student.  "He has this ability to pick up stuff so quick.  I'm trying to slow him down a little bit," said Steve Paige.

Hitting the slopes at Alta is just another way for Mike to get out of his comfort zone and while it comes with risk the reward is just too much to pass up.

"I think everyone needs to have that flare of adventure that he has...it's not long before he's not going to need me," said Paige.
