SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man arrested in the stabbing of a criminal defense lawyer tells police he was invited inside the house and then attacked.
Salt Lake City police are questioning the 28-year-old Matthew Wall's account and booked him into jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police Det. Dennis McGowan tells The Associated Press it isn't clear how Wall got inside attorney Steven Killpack's house early Thursday.
The former federal public defender, now in private practice, was in stable condition Friday with several stab wounds to the chest.
According to court records, Wall has a lengthy criminal history and was already facing unresolved shoplifting, theft and drug charges.
Wall's public defender, Adam Elmore, didn't return a call Friday from The Associated Press.
