Enoch, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – A 35-year-old Enoch man sacrifices his life to save his 12-year-old son.

On June 12, 2013 at around 4pm Piute County Sheriffs office and Utah State Parks responded to a call of two people overboard at Fisherman Beach at the Otter Creek Reservoir.

The victim, 35-year-old Jeremy William Gunter jumped into the water to save his 12-year-old son who had jumped in after his mother’s hat that had blown into the water. He was able to get his son back to the boat, but was unable to make it himself.

ABC 4 Utah spoke to people who were also out on the lake Wednesday and they tell us it was very windy. It was possible that the wind pushed the man away from the boat and it was impossible for him to make the swim back before being exhausted.

Sevier, Sanpete, and Washington County Sheriff's offices responded with their search and rescue teams. Gunter’s body was recovered around 10:30. A fund has been set up in his name.
