School's out and 7-year-old Adler Utley enjoys playing outside with his three brothers, but for Alder and his family this is no ordinary summer.
"I have no way of relating to what he's going through right now," said Alder’s mom, Sarah Utley.
That's because in March doctors found a rare kidney cancer called Wilm's Tumor.
"Just watching him...go from where he was last year to where he is now...it's been a challenge."
And to add insult to injury Adler’s dad is self employed and the family has no health insurance, still, they're making the most of it.
"When you're trying to treasure every moment, you just make every moment the best it can be,” said McKay Utley, Alder’s brother.
Adler began wearing striped socks to be like his father, but now he says he wears them to be brave that's what inspired him and his brothers to cover this tree in front of their home in yarn.
"...it seems like this has brought us closer together," said
And to help them stay together and raise awareness and funds family friend Chris Webb created the Hope for Adler Foundation.
"It's just an honor top be able to serve and help a friend out."
It’s already raised more than $30,000, but it will take a lot more than that to pay off the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, but Adler is optimistic.
"Just keep going through...and think positive thoughts," said Adler.
That's what he and his family are doing.
