A San Juan County official said that the Cessna 185 went down in a wilderness area south of Blanding, and that among the dead are one Utahn and two Texans.
An official said searchers found the wreckage in the Dark Canyon Primitive Area early Thursday morning.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that the plane was registered to 28-year-old Kyle Richardson of Midland, Texas.
The Associated Press said that Richardson is a petroleum engineer.
